Description

This temple is a branch temple of Haeinsa, the head temple of the 12th Diocese of the Korean Buddhist Jogye Order. It was established in 1912 by the head monk of Beoksongsa, Ven. Kim Dong-un. In 1929, six temples in the area, including Yeongwonsa, Beophwasa, Silsangsa, Yongchusa, and Beoksongsa, collaborated to operate a kindergarten as part of their missionary activities. In 1970, Ven. Jo Yeong-san assumed leadership and renamed it Borimsa. In 1971, the temple was reconstructed, and in 1972, a Buddhist hall was erected. Located in the central part of Hamyang-eup, the temple has significantly contributed to the promotion of Buddhism through missionary activities. The Daeungjeon (Main Buddha Hall) houses Tangible Cultural Heritage No. 138 of Gyeongsangnam-do, the "Hamyang Yongsansa Stone-carved Standing Buddha Statue," excavated from the old Yongsansa site. Nearby, there is also the state designated cultural property “Hamyang Sangnim” which has been designated as Natural Monument No. 154.
