Geographical and Geological Features

Hamyang-gun is the highest peak of the Sobak Mountains and faces the Mt. Jirisan, the guardian mountain of Yongnam in the south. The valley water that rises in the Mr. Jirisan becomes two streams, Rimcheon and Umcheon, which both pass through Macheon, Hyucheon and Urim myeons and arrive in Sancheonggungye. Wiecheon that rises in the Mr. Backun passes through Bakjeon-myeon, Byeonggok-myeon and Hamyang-eup and arrives in Sudong. Gumcheon that rises in the Mr. Dukyu passes through Seosang-myeon and Seoha-myeon and arrives in Anneui-myeon, where it meets Jangsu, which rises in the Mr. Hwangsoksan and passes through Anneui-myeon, and then together they flow into Ramgye river. The integrated stream meets Wiecheonsu in Sudong-myeon and arrives in Sancheonggungye, where it finally meets Umcheon and together they flow down to the Namgang river.
Geologically, gneiss is the primary constituents in the strata of this region, although granite appears in the north and central areas in part and some rock lines appear in the Mt. Jirisan and Mt. Dukyusan areas.
