Description

This Maaeyeorae Standing Statue, made in the Goryeo is one of Geobuljogaks and all have Kwangbae, Buddha body and pedestal. Kwangbae is Juhyeonggeosinkwang embossed two lines of a headlight and a body light. In this lines Yeonjumun is carved, out of lines is Hwayeommun. Against the whole size of Buddha Body the hair and Yukgae of head are small, but the impression of face is healthy, well rounded and gentle. Specially, the expression around nose and mouth shut is similar to Geochang Yangpyeong-dong Stoned Yeorae Standing Statue (Treasure No. 337) formed at the end of the United Silla. On the widely and grandly two shoulders are putting around Buddhist clothes as Tonggyeonsik being a reverse in chest. This wearing style, flown to Korea through China from India, seems to be introduced a sculpture style of the United Silla. This Maaebul with Yangpyeong-dong Stoned Yeorae Standing Statue (Treasure No. 337) of Geochang, an adjacent area, are presumed to be all formed from Buddha style at the end of the United Silla. The feet are thick, big. However, the hands are unevenly very small, and then it makes us feel awkward. This reason is thought as an error in the course of Bujo making. The pedestal is consisted of Angyeonjwa and a lower pedestal supporting it. The lower pedestal is carved Uju and Taengju. This is assumed that made, showing the style of the United Silla, as statue at about 10 century, the early year of the Goryeo.
