Hansin Valley is a deep and wide valley located in the northern part of Jirisan Mountain, from Baegmu-dong in Macheon-myeon, Hamyang-gun to Seseok Plateau. It’s a rugged yet picturesque valley known for its unparalleled beauty. It boasts countless beautiful waterfalls and crystal-clear stream flows continuously through the cascading waterfalls all year round. Hansin Valley, with its numerous waterfalls, is rich in stories and legends.

Our ancestors made and shared stories about every tree, rock, and stream. The name “Hansin Valley” means "deep and wide valley" but it’s also called “Hansin” because the valley feels ice cold even in midsummer. The valley was once referred to as Hansim Valley (“Hopeless Valley”) due to its cold and turbulent waters and perilous twists and turns. The pronunciation evolved, leading to the current name, Hansin Valley. There is also a story that the valley was named after a person named Hansin, who led a folk band and tragically perished in the rapids while heading to Seseok. Locals still claim to hear the sound of kkwaenggwari (gong) on rainy days in the valley.

While the main stream of Hansin Valley leads to Seseok, several branches flow around the valley. When referring to the valley in front of Baegmudong as Baegmudong Valley, it encompasses four major branches – Hansin Valley that runs from Baegmudong to Seseok, Bareunjaegoloriginating north of Deokpyeongbong Peak; Godeunjaegol flowing down from Chilseonbong Peak; and Hansinji Valley streaming down from Jangteomok. These four branches converge to form the Baegmudong Valley, flow into Eomcheon and create the upper reaches of the Namgang River. Among them, Hansin Valley is a gorge between Chotdaebong Peak and Yeongsinbong Peak. And it merges with Hansinji Valley where Ganeso Waterfall is located and continues towards Baegmudong.
